I love to make grandiose plans – to schedule out dates, find new things for us to do, and add special little touches. I had a fabulous beach date planned with sandwiches from our favorite restaurant, a new beach blanket for the summer, sweets from a local candy shop and an afternoon of sun, sand, and crashing waves. Perfect! How often does life work out exactly as planned though?! We are always so busy, and our schedules are constantly fluctuating. In the last five days alone, my husband has been on call more than 50% of the time. When he wasn’t on call, we were at a 3 hour dance recital and then moving my sister out of her townhouse. So sometimes, impromptu dates are the best, like our Courtyard Summer Picnic with PB&Js, fruit salad, some entertainment and a tasty Kool-Aid beverage!
Our planned beach picnic fell apart, but we both ended up having a Saturday afternoon off. That’s when I decided an impromptu picnic in our courtyard could we just as fun! I made us some PB&J sandwiches because – I mean – what says picnic more than peanut butter and jelly? Then, I looked what we had in the fridge, which was clementines, blueberries and apples. That made the perfect fruit salad for us.
I didn’t have time to make a special drink for us and I didn’t just want water. I mean, I love water, but it just isn’t that much fun. That’s why I’m loving the 96 oz. Kool-Aid ready-to-drink containers! Whenever we want to have a fun picnic together, we have a yummy drink we can share. Plus, you all know how much I love easy! We will definitely be bringing it along to our eventual beach date or summer picnics at Oz Park or more relaxing afternoons in the courtyard.
No picnic is complete without fun activities though! On this day, we spent some time playing “In a Pickle”, which is a card game that is super portable. Plus, it doesn’t take a lot of focus so we can play while chatting. We also brought out our books. We love stretching out in the summer sun reading. I miss the sun so much in the dreary winter months.
Did you all grow up on Kool-Aid? We didn’t have it all the time, but we definitely had it as a special treat. Our favorite was and still is Dark Cherry! I was amazed by ALL the flavor options available at Walmart though. I bought us some fun new flavor packets to try like the Cherry Limeade and the Sharkleberry Fin.
Jim Dillard, pro fisherman, could be coming to your local Walmart to help promote the new 96oz Kool-Aid bottles! There will be product giveaways, t-shirts, games, and more fun activities!
