Budget Friendly Fall Decor Ideas

We are definitely a family on a budget. While we love going out and enjoying the city, paying off debt and saving for a house one day is more important to us. Which means I don’t get to decorate this place from ceiling to floor like I want to. I can stare at a Crate and Barrel or Pottery Barn catalog all day, but I need to be thrifty. I am guessing some of you do, too, so I thought I would share some of my budget friendly Fall Decor ideas – VASE FILLERS!

I have so many glass pieces around this apartment that we either got for our wedding or that I have picked up at a dollar store. While glass is pretty on it’s own, they are really perfect for adding pops of color or themed items. Vase fillers can be a really thrifty way to decorate for every season, you just have to find the right fillers. For fall, you want to think warm colors, outdoorsy items like leaves or acorns, and anything else stereotypically Fall, of course.

For my fall decor, I went with three different vase fillers.

  1. Popcorn Kernels – This is pretty budget friendly to begin with if you buy a large quantity at the best price, but you can also sometimes find it on sale. This is my favorite vase filler for the season! I love the warm colors in the vase and the thought of harvests and corn mazes. It also makes a nice backdrop for the more vibrant oranges and yellows or even reds of the season.
  2. Mini Fake Pumpkins – I bought these at JoAnns when they were on sale for 50% but you could also wait to buy them with a coupon. A little of these goes a long way, and I have them scattered around the apartment in 3 different vases/bowls. I love the pop of orange that they bring to the decor. I even have a few individual mini pumpkins sitting on the table, and I might even use these at table settings when we have people over. I could tie a little ribbon around the top with a name card attached.
  3. Fake Flowers – Again, I bought these on sale at Joanns. For only a few dollars, I added a bouquet of fake flowers to a vase up high on a shelf. While I am not always a huge fan of fake flowers, there are good ones out there. Plus, they offer great color up high. I snipped off a couple of the flowers in the bouquet to also add a few flowers down lower in other vases like the one shown in the picture.

To add dimension to some of the vases, I like to add other elements. For example, I wrapped thick jute twine around the outside of one of the vases. I also used a little scrapbooking quote for the front of different vase. It brings more to the decor than just the filler, while not adding much to the budget.

The DIY Fall Decor Signs I made were pretty thrifty too, especially if you have scrap wood at home that you could use for the sign itself. A little paper and paint can go a long way to create a design.
