A fun DIY Halloween Eyeball Wreath that turned out cuter than I ever hoped!

I first made this back in 2015 when I needed a fun weekend of distraction which meant making Halloween decor and baking fall treats!!

On the docket for that weekend was the creepy crawly Spider Wreath I made for my mom’s Halloween door and this playful Eyeball Wreath for our own decorations!

It doesn’t get much better than eating Pumpkin Mummy Truffles and burning your fingers with hot glue… haha!

When I began tackling this eyeball wreath, I was a little nervous that this wouldn’t come out. I was using such simple craft products to make this wreath with just a loose vision, but I really love it!

It feels playful enough for the littles who like to shake and poke the googly eyes and a creepy enough in the dark for the older kids.

Bryan and I were just debating why we don’t have this Halloween wreath anymore because we loved it, but we agreed to just say that it got lost in one of the moves.

Which basically means I will be burning my fingers again soon with hot glue to make it again!

HOW TO MAKE AN EYEBALL WREATH FOR HALLOWEEN

This wreath takes a lot of hot gluing, but that is it.

You will start by gluing on the first layer of ping pong balls in an even layer along the foam wreath while it lay flats on the table so you know it will lay flat on your door.

Then, you will start to add a second layer and continue up until you are satisfied with the look.

Once you are satisfied with the fullness, you add on the googly eyes. You can use ones with adhesive but I’m confident hot glue will put them on more securely if you are going to hang this wreath outside.

MATERIALS TO MAKE THIS EYEBALL WREATH

NOTE 1: It might seem a little weird to you but the ping pong balls are listed as Beer Pong Balls in the link above. They were the best price though … even though they are the same thing!

HOW LONG DID THIS HALLOWEEN WREATH TAKE?

I will be honest – this was not the fastest wreath I have ever made. It took 2-3 hours to make the eyeball wreath.

However, none of that work was hard or complicated. It just took time to add hot glue to each ping pong ball and each googly eye and then attach to the foam wreath form.

So I suggest munching on a yummy fall dessert, watching Hocus Pocus, and craft away!

Instructions

    1. Warm up your hot glue.
    2. Start at one spot on your wreath and start gluing on the ping pong balls. Create a single layer of ping pong balls on the wreath all the way around. I do this while lying my wreath form flat on the table to make sure it's laying flat and won't stick out from the wall or door weird. DIY Halloween Craft - This playful Eyeball Wreath is perfect holiday decor. 3. Once your first layer is done, start building up. Filling in empty spots and making visual interest. You want to look at it from straight on and from the sides - whichever direction your wreath might be seen.
    4. When done, hot glue your googly wiggle eyes to any ping pong ball you see. I like to squeeze them into lower balls on the first layer as well where I can see them to add great dimension.
    5. Glue and pin ribbon to the back for hanging.

Notes

HOW MANY PING PONG BALLS DO I NEED TO FILL A WREATH?

I used 3 packs of 288 ping pong balls for a 14" wreath, so 864 total balls.
