DIY Candy Necklaces is a fun addition to any kids’ party!

DIY Candy Necklaces - a fun and easy addition to a kids party! These were made for a colorful Inside Out Party! | The Love NerdsI am sharing my full Inside Out party with all of you tomorrow, but I first wanted to share one of the fun activities for the party first. I give full credit to my mom for this idea, actually. She reminded me about the DIY Candy Necklaces we used to make at parties when I was a kid. I clearly remember stringing up candy and sweet cereals and wearing them around, nibbling little bits away throughout the day. It felt amazing to have candy so close all day long … almost like I was getting away with something.

DIY Candy Necklaces felt like the perfect fun, colorful activity to include for an Inside Out Party, especially since all the choices were colorful round circles like the memory balls in the movie. You have seen the movie, right? If not, you should! I loved it!

Now, these necklaces can go from a creative hodge podge that definitely looks like a kid craft to necklaces that you could purchase from a store. Seriously! For older kids, consider needles and soft gum balls; you can use the needle to create a hole in a soft gum ball and they will look like real beads.

MATERIALS

  • Bakers Twine (I have used the pull apart licorice before to create string but they definitely fall apart more easily.)
  • Lots of round food choices with holes in the middle: Life Savers, Fruit Loops, Cheerios, Peach Rings, Pretzel Rings, Twizlers cut into smaller pieces, or use a needle to make a hole in soft gum balls or jelly bellies.

This isn’t hard; it’s designed for kids! Put everything out so they can see their choices. Then, cut the string for them into appropriate sizes. If you are using any candy that needs a hole added, make sure to do so ahead of time instead of having a needle lying around. It will also be less stressful for you in the moment. After they have strung it up, help them put a knot into the string.

If you worry about kids eating, licking fingers, etc … make sure they pick their candy first and place into a small bowl in front of them.
