Cute and Colorful Toy Storage Containers for the Playroom

Now that we are settling into the house, Liam gets a playroom! We had a free room next to my office downstairs and we spent a lot of time debating whether to turn it into a playroom or a guest room. At the end of the day, we knew a playroom would get far more use with house guests being rare and the placement couldn’t be better than next to my office. So a playroom it is, and the pursuit of fun and usable playroom storage has begun! Next, we added the soft laundry hamper bags for his plush toys and then finally the open table storage under the bookshelves which has been nice for throwing his bigger toys and extra books. It’s all been a good start but he still has so many little things that need a home.

Since this project was for the playroom, I decided that going with their bright neon colors in their BLAZE line would be the best choice, picking pink, blue, green and purple.

Best part? It goes on easy like spray paint! It was so easy to use.

HOW TO MAKE THESE COLORFUL DIY PLAYROOM STORAGE CONTAINERS

  1. Choose your storage containers. These plastic containers were 32oz and are good for keeping small items together, like his small collection of cars. Making these made me realize one thing though – that I want to make larger ones! I am going to set aside larger plastic food containers to reuse for bigger toys in the future.
  2. Decide which toys you are wanting to put into the containers and add to the top of the lid.
  3. Use hot glue to attach toy to the center of the lid. Let it cool and dry before moving forward and use a hair dryer if needed to remove any hot glue webs.
  4. Lay down a drop cloth outside in the shade and then add the lids on top of a plastic cup to keep them elevated while applying product. For best results, avoid direct sunlight, high humidity or breezy conditions.
  5. Shake can vigorously for one full minute after mixing ball begins to rattle and then shake often while applying. Hold can 6-10” from surface, moving can back and forth, slightly overlapping each stroke. Apply heavily enough to produce an even, wet appearance.
  6. Allow at least 30 minutes between coats; it was a bit humid for us so I gave longer wait times in between coats. Then apply as many coats as needed for full coverage.
  7. Once done, allow at least 4 hours dry time before using.

NOTE: When using Plasti Dip Blaze, it is recommended to first use Plasti Dip Craft in white for first coat. I did 2 coats of white and then 3 coats of color for this project.
