Trick or Treat with these adorable Pumpkin Mummy Hand Pies!

A couple years ago, I shared Pumpkin Pecan Hand Pies with all of you shaped like pumpkins. They have been a big hit over the years!

Since they are individual servings, they are great to serve at fall parties and holidays. No one wants to be standing behind a counter serving up dessert when they can be enjoying their guests.

With Halloween right around the corner though, these Mummy Pumpkin Hand Pies are the perfect addition to your party menu!

Seriously, you won’t regret it! You will get all the amazing flavor of a classic pumpkin pie in an adorable mummy design!

They are also great because they are easy to make in any size you want. Go smaller to make a larger batch or go bigger and have what I would more call a Cookie Hand Pies.

My husband took this batch to work, and they quickly disappeared! That is always the sign of a good dessert recipe, right?

HOW TO MAKE PUMPKIN MUMMY HAND PIES

First, you will want to make your delicious pumpkin pie filling. I really recommend mixing this up quickly together instead of buying pumpkin pie filling.

You will have more control over your flavors and it will be well worth it!

The filling has my favorite fall spices mixed into pumpkin puree – cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar, and pumpkin pie spice. Plus, if you like nuts, I highly recommend adding in the pecans!

Second, you will prep the pie crusts for the hand pies.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE THIS RECIPE

AIR BAKE COOKIE SHEET – This is my large cookie sheet that I love for making big batches of cookies! They always come out soft and chewy!

SILICONE BAKING MAT – For years, I just used parchment paper and that is definitely a valid choice. However, I love how easy these silicone baking mat is and it fits the above cookie sheet well!

ROUND COOKIE CUTTERS – These make punching out your hand pie crusts easy and with a full range of sizes, you can customize for your party needs!

CANDY EYES – You can’t make a mummy decor hand pie without cute little eyes peeking out!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup pumpkin puree
  • ½ cup brown sugar, unpacked
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ½ pumpkin pie spice
  • 1½ tablespoon heavy cream
  • ¼ cup pecans
  • 1 package refrigerated pie crust
  • 1 egg

  2. Mix Together Filling: Combine pumpkin, brown sugar, spices, heavy cream and pecans in a bowl until well combined.
  3. Unroll the pre-made dough on a flat, floured surface. Using your desired cookie cutter size, cut out your base for the hand pies. Keep the leftover dough and cut into strips to make your mummy wrapping.
  4. Prep the cookie sheet by covering with parchment paper.
  5. Place your dough base onto the parchment paper and add about a tablespoon of filling to the middle of each shape. You want to leave a little bit of space around the edges to seal the strips of dough to the base.
  6. Whisk one egg in a small bowl and brush on top to get a beautiful golden color.
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. Lastly, add candy eyes to the top.
