Taking our son home from the hospital was the best and scariest moment of my life! Where’s the manual?! I’m sharing about it and our FAVE new baby products!

GOING HOME FROM THE NICU!

Liam’s arrival into this world is the most life changing moment of my life. Becoming a Mom quickly defines a new purpose for my everyday life as well as the future. It’s not that everything else that was important stops being important – my career, favorite things, interests, and major personality traits have all remained the same. I love nights and weekends away from Liam because I crave occasional silence, boring kid activities and extra sleep, but nothing is better than his excited smile to see me or his unprompted kisses. He is the bright light in a season of grief.

After some serious complications and a stay in the NICU, which I shared about after his birth in Our Light of 2016 post, we were thankfully told we could take him home with us on the same day I was released. I sighed a huge breath of relief… Until I sat in the hospital wheel chair with him all bundled up in his car seat ready to go waiting for Bryan to pull the car around. What was this hospital thinking? Our kid had just spent the first few days of his life hooked up to wires and tubes and suddenly they were letting us just take him home? Where was the manual?

I checked on him constantly that first night, wanting to know he was safe and breathing. Nervous but hopeful that he was able to leave the hospital with me, something I know most NICU parents don’t get to experience. It took time for less nerves and more hope, but 18 months later I still have that urge sometimes to check on him at night. I mainly see how much he has thrived though. He’s constantly on the move, never wanting to slow down for anything other than Moana. He loves laughing contests, chases around the living room, and giving kisses.

That first night I wondered when I would be less worried. I thought it was a result of his concerning birth and NICU stay or even the other stressors of 2016. But I quickly came to learn that the nervous but hopeful feeling is just par for the course as a mom. Always wondering if you are doing the right thing, providing the right nutrients, using the right products, etc.

One thing has easily stayed a constant though for Liam since he was born – Pampers. We figured if they were good enough for the NICU to use them, they were good enough for us to use when we came home from the NICU. Plus while we heard our friends struggle about which diaper to use because of frequent leaks or blow outs, we rarely had a diaper issue.

So when we heard about Pampers new line – Pampers Pure – this nervous but hopeful mom couldn’t wait to give them a try as well. Aren’t we all looking for something even better and healthier for our kids?

Pampers Pure protects baby’s skin with 0% chlorine bleaching, fragrance or parabens. They’re clinically proven hypoallergenic and made with soft, plant-based fibers and other thoughtfully sourced materials. Pair that with the guarantee of Pampers-level softness and up to 12 hours of leak protection, it’s an easy decision to make for Liam. I also love the fact that Pampers Pure diapers are made using 100% certified renewable electricity.

As much as I love the diapers, I think the Pampers Aqua Pure wipes are my favorite new addition. They are made with 99% water and are free of alcohol, parabens, dyes and fragrance. They’re simple, cotton-enhanced wipes with gentle cleansers that get the job done. Still thick, which every parent wants when changing dirty diapers, these wipes are so gentle for sensitive skin!

We have had a couple bad diaper rash moments in the last 18 months where we resorted to a water squirt bottle for cleaning him up or rinsed out diaper wipes, trying to avoid anything harsh on his skin. Which is why I’m so excited to be able to always provide him the best diaper wipe experience with these new wipes. Alcohol is just not needed for his sensitive skin!

To make it even easier for us, Pampers Pure Diapers and Pampers Pure Aqua Wipes can be found at Walmart during your next shopping trip in select sizes and at Walmart.com. Get just one box of diapers and one 6-count box of wipes and you will qualify for free shipping (free shipping once you spend $35).
