Even the Smallest of Me Moments Can Make a Difference!
With two businesses to run as a work at home mom with a son who hates me being on my computer, I often find that I have no time for myself throughout the day. I play with and care for Liam, edit photos, write posts, work on social media and then spend time with Bryan when he gets home. If a break occurs, it’s usually because a headache or backache forces it which I don’t consider to be “Me Time”.
As Bryan prepared to embark on a second guys weekend this summer, I really started thinking about what I’ve been doing to take care of myself. It feels so logical to use any spare moment to cross something off my to-do list because I was taught to be driven and productive, but it is not necessarily what is best. In fact, this routine has left me running on empty. All of us not only deserve rest and Me Time, but we need it.
So I decided it was time for a scheduled change because let’s be honest, if it’s not scheduled it probably won’t happen. During Liam’s second nap in the afternoon, I take the first 20 minutes for myself with Oui by Yoplait and an audio book. I committed to doing this for at least 7 days to see if it would make a difference or not and boy did it.
First, adding a sweet, delicious snack made a huge difference for my overall energy level and kept me from binge eating anything I could snack on before dinner. Oui by Yoplait is inspired by their traditional French recipe. They use simple, non-GMO ingredients like whole milk and real fruit poured and set in each glass pot to be cultured. No artificial flavors and no colors from artificial sources. The results are a unique, thick and creamy texture with subtle sweet fresh taste, offering a moment of pure enjoyment in every spoonful.
The rich texture makes it feel like a decadent treat and is perfect to eat slowly and savor. Plus, there are 8 delicious single-serve flavors to choose from: Strawberry, Vanilla, Blueberry, Peach, Black Cherry, Coconut, Lemon, and Plain. You can also pick up multipacks in Strawberry and Vanilla.
My favorite flavor has got to be the peach! I’m not normally a fan of peach yogurt because I often find the flavor to be off, but Oui Peach Yogurt is amazing! The real fruit at the bottom was sweet and still had a good crisp, crunch to it.
Second, I have always been a reader but I’ve been struggling to actually get through a physical book these days. Finding the time to actually sit down and read has been hard enough but, when I do find the time, I almost never manage to stay awake. There was a stretch when I wasn’t getting through any books, and I felt it. When I’m not enjoying books and stories, I just don’t feel like myself. Audiobooks are my sanity savor.
I love being able to put on my audiobook while I kick back and relax with my Oui yogurt, maybe even playing a game on my phone at the same time. I love being able to listen while I edit photos or cook dinner, too, but that little bit of time where I’m just relaxing in “Me Time” is my favorite. It’s where I feel like I whole person and not just one of the individual compartmentalized portions of myself.
Third, after following this routine for a week, I found myself to just be less grumpy in general. It’s not like scheduled 20 minutes of “Me Time” is going to change my entire life, but even the smallest of steps can make a big impact.
Which means the next time you are in Walmart, you need to pick up Oui by Yoplait! You will feel fancy picking up your yogurt in little glass jars which means it’s the perfect purchase for a moment for yourself.
Then, look up these audiobooks to enjoy with your Oui; these have been my favorite audiobooks so far! A couple are individual books while the majority have been series I’ve loved that are definitely fun and often fantastical. While some are really excellent books (Red Rising series is one of my all time favorites), many of them are perfect, enjoyable Me Moment books
