Are you overwhelmed right now? I am. My to-do list is constantly growing, but I still want to be able to enjoy the holidays. I don’t want lovely occasions with friends and family to be so stressful that I don’t enjoy them. I challenged myself to come up with a cute holiday treat and display without spending hours and hours on it, which is where this fun get together comes in. It only took me an hour to put together from start to finish. Yes, an hour!

Putting together a cute holiday party and a yummy dessert doesn't have to be hard! I put together this party table and treats in only an hour, including these fun Twinkie Strawberry Shortcakes with Santa Hats! {The Love Nerds} #HostessHolidayIn an hour, I lined the table with red and white paper and made a snowflake background with a roll of kraft paper. To add the snowflakes, I took a paint brush and very quickly added the snowflakes without worrying about precision. Snowflakes are all different, after all. In an hour, I also decorated from yummy hostess treats with the help of a cute Christmas baker set from Target with peppermint sticks, North Pole Signs and Glitter Snow (I don’t know what I would do without Target!) AND put together a yummy Twinkie Strawberry Shortcake!

When creating your menu and you don’t have a lot of time, try choosing only one or two items to make and then consider fun ways to display other yummy items you can just put out. For this party, I decided to use the Twinkies in a recipe but then just display Ding Dongs and HoHos in a fun manner. People were still excited about the Ding Dongs and HoHos. They devoured them, actually, and it saved me a ton of needed time!

NOTE: To make edible snow on the Ding Dongs, I used Cool Whip! There are lots of options you could use, but I am not an icing fan and feel like it would make the treats too sweet then. Cool Whip is easy to eat off the top and light enough to enjoy with the dessert!

Now to the main event – Twinkie Strawberry Shortcakes! I have always been a huge fan of Strawberry Shortcake, but this version with Twinkies blows all the others out of the water. If you are a huge Twinkie fan, you will definitely want to check this out. Plus, it is so much easier to cut a Twinkie in 4 pieces than bake a whole shortcake to then cut into pieces.

Making a yummy dessert doesn't have to be hard! These Twinkie Strawberry Shortcake are easy to throw together and even easier to serve at a party with their individual dessert portions! Plus, who doesn't love Twinkies?! {The Love Nerds} #HostessHoliday #ad

I am also a huge fan of individual dessert servings, so you will see them a lot around here. It makes serving at a party easier for the guests and me as I definitely don’t want to be stuck behind a table serving up portions when I could be chatting with friends.

Course: Dessert
Author: Maggie @ The Love Nerds
Ingredients
  • 1 box of Twinkies
  • 1 lb Strawberries
  • 2 tbsp Sugar
  • 1 8 oz Tub of Cool Whip
  • Note: You will also need mason jars or small flutes for assembly. The size of your container will determine how many you can make.
Instructions
  1. Take your Cool Whip and transfer to a zippered bag and place in freezer while working on other pieces. This will help keep it manageable while working with it.
  2. Reserve a whole strawberry for every container to garnish.
  3. Remove stems and cut up remaining strawberries into small pieces and put in medium bowl.
  4. Sprinkle with sugar and allow to sit for at least 20 minutes.
  5. Cut Twinkies for the size of the container. For my flutes, I cut them into quarters. For a mason jar, consider cutting into halves.
  6. Take your Cool Whip bag and cut the corner of bag to allow for piping.
  7. In each flute/jar, layer cake, then strawberries, then Cool Whip. Repeat till it reaches the top.
  8. Take reserved strawberries and use for garnish on each jar. I added a little dot of Cool Whip at the top of the garnish strawberry to look like a Santa Hat.

I cannot tell you the last time I had a hostess product but your article really made me crave a Hoho! You created a very nice display. I agree with you about coming up with something a little more simple in order to avoid stress! The holidays are supposed to be a joyful time, so its best to just do what you have the time for instead of pushing yourself to hard.
