Get Creative with Taco Night and Make a Walking Taco Tuesday Bar Perfect for Summer!
Taco Tuesdays have been a fun staple for a long time. We don’t have tacos every Tuesday, but be honest – isn’t it way more fun to make tacos on a Tuesday? It’s automatically a theme dinner! I wanted to take Taco Tuesdays and make it outdoor friendly for a warm summer night, something easy to enjoy while sitting in fold out chairs or playing lawn games. Then, I remembered Walking Tacos.
Walking Tacos was something we were introduced to at college. Obviously at the time I didn’t realize it was a wide spread thing; I thought it was a fun Cornell College only occurrence. They would put out a taco bar with individual Frito bags out on the main ped mall for students to make their Walking Taco as they were out and about. It was a fun tradition and it seemed perfect to bring to Taco Tuesday.
Thus, Walking Taco Tuesday was born as a fun, summer tradition! If you have never had a Walking Taco before, let me enlighten you. You take an individual size bag of chips as your base; I think Fritos, Doritos, and tortilla chips work well for this. Then you fill it to the brim with yummy goodness!
- Individual Bag of Chips - Fritos Doritos, Tortilla Chips
- Taco Seasoned Beef - cooked thoroughly
- Ranch Seasoned Turkey ground turkey - cooked thoroughly
- Suggested Toppings: tomatoes tomatoes with chiles, jalapenos, cheese, sour cream, avocado, chili, beans, hot sauce, salsa, queso (can't be too hot temperature wise), corn, onions, and bell peppers.

Crush your chosen bag of chips.

Fold over the edge of the bag (makes it easy to stuff and eat in my opinion).

Add whatever toppings you want and enjoy!
Of course, if I’m going to set up a food bar, I might as well add a few decorations and some fun color because it’s all about making moments matter around here.
The chalkboard pennant sign, the colorful chalkboard clothespin signs, and the straws were both picked up in the dollar section of Target, a favorite place of mine! I keep a collection of plastic tableclothes and paper napkins to choose from, and everything else was just a mix match of things I had lying around. I love all the little pops of color!
Now that an easy outdoor food item has been decided on, a great drink needs to be available, too! Lipton Iced Tea is perfect for this! First, we are big iced tea drinkers and almost nothing tastes as refreshing to me on a warm summer day than a cold iced tea. Second, individual bottles with a lid makes it great for outdoors because you can reseal as you throw your next round of bags or hit the croquet mallet.

I love throwing events like this for family and friends because it’s what really matters. Bringing people together for good food, refreshing drinks, and a beautiful night outside is so important for us because being surrounded by those you love is the best feeling in the world. It’s a tradition we definitely want to continue after we have our son and as our family continues to grow.
