We have people over a lot, and, while I love offering dessert, I don’t always want to be hiding away in the kitchen while everyone else is having fun. Sometimes you just need a super quick and easy dessert to throw together, such as these Baked Cinnamon and Sugar Churros made from puff pastry.
They are not fancy, but they have just the right amount of sweet on which to end the night. Plus, they take me about 20 minutes to prepare – 10 of which are in the oven baking.
Baked Cinnamon and Sugar Churros
Course:
Dessert
Ingredients
- Puff Pastry Sheets
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 tbsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp ground cloves
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
-
Unfold the puff pastry sheets and cut into 1/2"-1" strips with pizza cutter. While I didn't in this photograph, I encourage you to then cut the sticks in half length wise. The best way I can describe it is that the sticks cook more sturdy and less airy.
-
Place the sticks on parchment paper on a cookie sheet about 1/2" apart.
-
Bake 10-12 minutes until golden brown.
-
Now, there are 2 options for covering with the sweet stuff: 1 Dip the sticks into melted butter and then roll into the cinnamon and sugar mixture until covered. Set aside for a few minutes to set. OR 2. Brush the sticks with melted butter using a pastry brush and toss cinnamon and sugar mixture on top. Once done with each, carefully flip and do the back.
I have done both ways and prefer the dipping method, using a cup or another taller container to hold the butter for easy dipping. I feel like you will get more coverage of cinnamon and sugar compared to the other option which is photographed. If you have fingers sensitive to heat or want the mess to be more contained, you might want to use option number 2. Both taste great; they are just different in terms of mess and overall coverage.

I love churros but have never made them before! I can’t believe how simple your recipe is. I have puff pastry in my freezer right now, so I’m thinking these would be a great snack later today! 🙂

While they definitely aren’t the traditional deep fried version, they are still yummy!
