Beautiful Cinderella Party Ideas inspired by the New Cinderella Movie
I have always loved Cinderella. When I was almost 2, we moved from St. Louis to the Chicago area in January. I got the Cinderella VHS for Christmas, making it the only movie not packed. I watched it on repeat! My love for this story started early. As I got older, the idea of making your path and changing your life became powerful. I know there is a lot of negative messages imbedded in fairy tales, but there are also empowering ones!
The new live action Cinderella movie was stunning, making us all believe in the power of fairy tales again. It promoted powerful messages which I captured in the Free Cinderella Printables I shared yesterday. Plus, it had gorgeous imagery – playing with the difference between nature and society. To say I love the inclusion of the butterflies throughout the movie is an understatement. They definitely inspired this party.
DIY BUTTERFLY BACKDROP
This butterfly backdrop was a last minute addition to my party concept and it might now be my favorite part. It is so delicate and offers the perfect touch to the party – colorful and pretty.
To start, I used Silhouette Designs #45052, #26282 and #35712. There are a collection of different butterfly designs, some solid and some with more intricate designs cut out. I cut out around 100 or so butterflies in 6 colors for 8 rows with an average of 9-12 butterflies on each. If you use paper that has color on one side, like my glitter gold paper, you will want to have two butterflies for each spot on the line.
I used fishing line – South Bend Monofilament Line – going down to hang the butterflies on. You can use the same to run along the top or a heavier string/twine depending on what you will be hanging them between. I left space at the top to create some distance between the butterflies and top string and then started hot gluing the butterflies onto the string with a small drop. I tried to space them out in each row and against the other rows, too. If you are looking, here is my hot glue gun – Surebonder Mini Dual Temperature Glue Gun.
My favorite part about the backdrop is how it flutters in the breeze so I included a video for you all so you could see it in action!
FOOD & DRINKS
In my mind, there is no better recipe for a Cinderella Party than pumpkin recipes or cheese recipes for good old Jaq. I made a batch of Pumpkin Rice Krispie Treats for my table. I also included some pink rock candy as Bippity Boppity Boo Wands! They also provide a nice splash of pink to the blue table.
I wanted a bit more pink on the table so I made up a batch of Princess Pink Punch that I will be sharing soon! If I had could have found my batch of short flutes from the Dollar Store, I would have used them. Instead I used my classic stand by – Mason Jars! To spruce them up a little bit, I used gorgeous straws from More Sprinkled Joy and Hot Glued one of my cut out butterflies on.
I am so excited about how this cake turned out! The Sugar Path in Geneva, IL made the cake. It is a 4 layer vanilla cake with buttercream frosting. It was delicious and beautiful! While I have many creative skills, decorating cakes is not one of them so I rely on fabulous bakeries like The Sugar Path for their help. When deciding the decor for the cake, I wanted clean. Regal. I had an idea of a simple montage to the old pillows in stories, so I went with the diamond look.
The Glass Slippers come from The Glitter Shoppe … though they are actually plastic. They are a great price for a really sturdy item. In keeping with the new Cinderella movie, I hot glued gold paper butterflies to the front of the shoes. One was placed on the top of the cake and the other sat on the table. I also added a sheet of Gold Paper Doilies to the cake plate. It is an easy way to add the golden touch to the plate as well as the topper.
Yesterday I shared the FREE Cinderella Printables I made for this party – including the framed quote and the Bippity Boppity Boo.
You cannot have a Cinderella party without a Golden Carriage. You can find one like mine at Charming Touch Parties who are also local Geneva vendors. I love my hometown!
The books were my mom’s idea, so I give her full credit. The fact that we had a huge stack of The Little Golden Books to match my other gold touches and that Cinderella was one of them was complete luck! Even more so that the Cinderella cover had the blue of the party, too. Pure luck! Though you can still purchase my old school 1980 copy of Cinderella still.
The Floral Pomanders on the right side of the table is another DIY that turned out beautifully and could be used in the future for home decor or even Christmas decor. I placed them on top of three different candle stick holders which gives them nice height on the table. I will be sharing a full tutorial soon!
Plus, I also included some gold pumpkins that I purchased at Joanns. You could always make your own with spray paint.
