Bryan and I are celebrating 5 years of marriage this week. Thursday to be exact! I know it’s not a BIG milestone but it definitely feels like one for us when we look back at everything those 5 years have included: 4 homes (we moved a lot!), 1 major career change, 2 new businesses built, 1 surgery, 1 loss of a parent, and 1 beautiful son! We’ve been really proud of how we’ve managed to still make time for date nights, even if it occurs at home after Liam goes to bed, still make time for each of us to work toward our individual career goals, and still keep the house fairly clean and put together. Except for our bedroom, that is.
As the one room in the house that no one else sees, it’s the one room in the house that tends to be a disaster. It’s pretty cliché really. We worry about taking care of everything and everyone one before ourselves. Well, I decided that needed to change and to work on refreshing the master bedroom on a budget with some help from Sam’s Club Home.
In our case, the first step was for me to CLEAN my room. There is a chaise on my side of the bed that ends up being used as a catch all – clothes, work materials since I don’t have an official office, paperwork, shoes. You name it, and it has probably ended up sitting on my chaise for weeks at a time. Not to mention the pile of my husband’s clothes two feet from his basket or the make-up piled in a heap.
I am super excited about this cute tray I had in another room of the house and have repurposed for my make-up, lotions, and daily products. Using a tray or basket like this makes a big difference because it’s pretty and functional. I can keep everything out for quick use, which is important to me, but everything also quickly tucks away into containment.
The next step was to spruce up the bed. We don’t have the money right now to buy a whole new mattress or comforter set, but that doesn’t mean I can’t make a big change! With 3 affordable changes, it honestly feels like we are sleeping on a whole new bed!! It’s so easy to push things off for ourselves, but think how much time we spend in our beds. Getting a good night sleep is so important!
After the bed, I decided it was time to also give the bathroom a mini-refresher with some new towels. Who doesn’t love new towels?! And yes, I also picked these up at Sam’s Club. After the bigger changes I was able to make on a budget thanks to Sam’s Club, I made small little changes that tried to shift the focus of the room back to the two of us.
- My work stuff is still there because it is the room with the best window light for photographing, but I put a couple boxes in the room that allows me to tuck the work away when I am done with it.
- I removed all the baby help books out into the living room so our nightstands have fun novels on them instead.
- I also removed any baby toys from our room because he’s not normally in there except for little bursts when we might be getting ready.
Lastly, I made a couple decor additions for this master bedroom refresh. I put flameless candles spread out around the bedroom that I was gifted a few years ago from my mom who actually got them at Sam’s Club. Candles make me happy and soft light is romantic, so these are a great way to add a little pretty to the room without going through candles all the time.
Then, I purchased us flowers from our wedding bouquet and plan to purchase fresh flowers at least once a month for our bedroom. Sometimes we need to do things that make us happy, and flowers make me happy! I have really loved waking up and seeing the white hydrangeas sitting on my table.
