Plan Your Next Family Trip or Girl’s Weekend to Chicago Now!
I’ve shared a couple posts so far about how much I love Chicago! Up until a year ago, we were living in Lincoln Park (a northern Chicago suburb) and loved it. We actually went into our old neighborhood a couple weeks ago to have dinner with friends and I found myself missing the hustle and bustle and the ability to walk everywhere. Getting your steps in in Chicago is easy! So if you are on the fence about planning a trip to the Windy City, do it! AND if you are looking for a Chicago hotel for a large group, stay at The Guesthouse Hotel!
You will find the Guesthouse Hotel in the northern neighborhoods of the city on the edge of Andersonville, Uptown and Lincoln Square. The neighborhoods of Chicago all offer incredible local shops and restaurants, making the our favorite for visiting and staying. If visiting downtown or the Chicago museum district is a priority though, don’t worry. It’s only a cab ride or El ride away!
So why stay at the Guesthouse? I’ve stayed at a lot of Chicago hotels as a couple, as a family, and as part of a girl’s weekend or bachelorette party. If you are visiting Chicago with a large group, the Guesthouse offers incredible one, two and three bedroom suites with kitchens, living room space, and private bedrooms. The large suites also have multiple bathrooms and a dining room area.
They are also the most prepared hotel I’ve ever stayed at with supplies for kids at no additional cost, including eating kits, bathing kits, booster seats, high chair, sound machine and more! Same goes for your dogs as well. They are welcome and the hotel even offers complimentary beds, food & water bowls and baggies upon request. You will seriously feel like you are staying at a home more than a hotel!
I’ve been able to stay here twice now. The first time was a year ago leading up to a wedding where the entire family was able to stay together in a 3 bedroom suite, host a bachelorette party, and provide a gorgeous space for the bridal party to get ready. The lobby is also a great space for wedding pictures. The second time was in March for a girls’ weekend with my blogging friends!
We had six girls comfortably staying in a 3 bedroom suite for a long weekend in Chicago. The intent of the weekend was bonding between fellow bloggers AND a work weekend, focusing on helping each other grow. Side Note: I love knowing women who believe in raising their friends and c0-workers up instead of keeping their tips and tricks to themselves.
Back to the blogger weekend though – the kitchen, living room and dining room made it perfect for staging photography, brainstorming, teaching, eating in and staying up late chatting. It was a much needed weekend for my soul. Sometimes you just need to be surrounded by amazing women!
Plus we enjoyed some really tasty food and had some fun Erin Condren (<—Referral Link) goodies to keep us on schedule and track all of the awesome ideas we were chatting about – notebooks, markers, calendars and more! I am going to be sharing these goodies with you soon because they make an awesome gift idea for the busy women in your lives. If you don’t know much about Erin Condren, I have posted on the blog a LOT about it because I honestly love their products and wouldn’t be able to manage without them. So make sure to check out all my Erin Condren posts!
Restaurant Suggestions for Northern Chicago Neighborhoods:
Oh my tasty goodness!!! I am a sucker for good coffee and fresh pastries, and Baker and Nosh definitely exceeded all expectations. We used our breakfast treats for a photography workshop at the hotel and then we all dove in, splitting all the baked good. My favorites?
River Valley Ranch is a farm-to-table restaurant and small community grocery store that was nice enough to sponsor us for dinner. I was so impressed with how fresh and delicious every item we ordered was, all with their own unique twist. But when they same farm-to-table, they mean it! They source fresh ingredients from their chemical-free farm in Wisconsin and other like-minded farmers in the Midwest.
My favorites? The Beet Salad, Mac and Cheese, Mushroom Ravioli and Amish Fried Chicken! The Fried Chicken comes with spicy slaw and buttermilk biscuits so it’s basically the perfect comfort food meal. My friend also had the tamales and loved them! There are just so many good choices. You can’t go wrong!
Oh my yummy! Fat Cat Bar in Uptown was one of those restaurants I stumbled upon and knew I needed to eat at! You read the menu and everything just screams comfort food.
We decided to go for brunch, and the donuts alone were worth it! The Poutine came in a very close second. I love any restaurant that offers a good breakfast burger (I love egg on my burger) but decided to order the french toast that morning. Fresh baked challah, honey butter and warm maple syrup. Yum! Next time I’m in uptown I defintiely want to go back for dinner.
We were going to head out for the night and find a restaurant, but then we all decided that staying inside with our PJs sounded like a better plan. Because comfort! Without any plan in mind, I started searching Grub Hub and stumbled upon Johnny Brown Bag. I am so glad we decided to give it a try because my Chicken Millanese Panini was AMAZING! I inhaled the first half of my sandwich before I realized I should probably take a picture for you all. Ooops!
I am not a huge cake fan, but oh how I love pie and love First Slice Pie! They have so many flavors to choose from and a great spot to sit outside when the weather is nice. My husband was super excited for me to bring home some Cherry Pie which was his favorite.
