Valentine's Day Outfits for the Whole Family

Valentine’s Day has never been a big, dramatic production at our house, meaning there are no gifts, big bouquets of flowers being delivered at my house or fancy date nights at hotels (not that I would ever turn those things down 😉 ). That doesn’t mean we don’t love to celebrate though because, of course, The LOVE Nerds want to celebrate love! We normally get dressed in a festive Valentine’s Day Outfit and plan a fun date night at home, like Couples Scattegories or the Not So Newlywed Game, because we like skipping the crowds at restaurants on the day of. Plus, now that we have Liam, we definitely don’t want to try to hunt down a babysitter.

I remember as a kid thinking about what outfits to wear for the holidays at school. You just had to wear something red or pink on Valentine’s Day or green on St. Patrick’s Day. As a new mom, I am super excited about getting to do this with Liam now and take a cute picture to share. In fact, our good friends gave him the sweetest red sweatshirt at Christmas with Mickey on it surrounded by a heart, and I immediately knew it was his Valentine’s Day outfit. Disney for the win! It might sound dorky, but holidays are a great way to mark the year and how much growth has occurred with a cute little one or even a relationship.

BABY/TODDLER

Babies and toddlers are definitely my favorite age to dress up for the holidays; I mean, just look at these adorable rompers, tutus, leg warmers and bow ties! If I hadn’t already decided to do a Disney Valentine’s Day with Liam, I would totally order that Jeans + Romper Shirt with Bow Tie and if he was older, I would totally order the 3D Bowtie Baby Boy T-shirt & Heart Design Pants. Too cute!

I’m planning to spend some time this weekend brainstorming some simple Valentine’s Day photo ideas for Little Liam! Photography is a passion of mine and something I want to continue to pursue this year, so Liam is going to be in a LOT of pictures. It’s crazy to think that there were maybe 50 pictures of me in the first year of my life (total guess) and some of those existed because I forced my way in to help my siblings open presents on their birthdays. There were 50 of Liam in the first few days. But back on point – just imagine the cute photos that could be taken in these baby Valentine’s Day clothes!

Getting kids to dress up and have fun with the holiday can be harder. For one, unlike babies, they can tell you no. Plus, you start to run into the “too cool” for this crowd depending on their age or their classmates.

My goal was to find pieces that would fit a variety of personalities, including throwing in some popular characters, some options for the more girly girls, and even a skull for the more hardcore kids. Some pieces like the Love Machine Robot shirt can even become a family shirt as it’s available in Men’s and Women’s sizes as well!

For the ladies, I looked for pieces in the color scheme for Valentine’s Day or pieces that gave a subtle nod to Valentine’s Day. My favorite pieces below? The Hearts Print Chiffon Blouse Peter Pan Collar Shirt (How pretty and sweet is that?!) and the Women’s Polka Dot Retro Vintage Style Cocktail Party Swing Dress (I see it and just want to go dancing!). Oh, and the scarves! I can never own enough scarves.

The best thing about the Hearts Blouse and so many of the pieces below is that they look festive and pretty as your Valentine’s Day outfit but they are also great pieces to add to your closet for general wear. I am personally loving open, draped cardigans post-baby because they are flattering and easy to wear, so a couple of the ones below might already be in my cart. For the men’s Valentine’s Day clothes, I looked for more date night outfit ideas. Classic, simple looks because I know my husband and male friends aren’t ones for wearing anything over the top “holiday” themed. You’ll find a lot of great colored pants, buttondowns and sweaters. Plus I threw a suit in there for good measure in case you do have some fun and fancy Valentine’s Day date plans!

I also added one item onto the list that is not available on Prime because I love it so much. It’s the Wherefore Heart Thou Tie. Bryan has this in the navy option that he was gifted and wore for a wedding and it’s just lovely!
