Delicious sweet and spicy fry sauce makes every fry better! This Honey Sriracha dipping sauce is the perfect combination of spicy from the sriracha sauce and sweet from a touch of honey and rice vinegar.
Irresistible Sweet and Spicy Fry Sauce!
In this house, we love incorporating a little spice into our menu. Even our toddler loves salsas and dips with a little kick, including this sweet and spicy fry sauce!
When I think sweet and spicy, I prefer creating a honey sriracha recipe. It is definitely my favorite sweet and spicy combination.
Sriracha sauce is strong – something I honestly don’t enjoy on its own and instantly tears up my eyes if I take too strong a sniff. However, with honey, it’s perfect!
The sweetness of the honey tames the spiciest part of the sriracha sauce.
If you are still having reservations about the sriracha sauce, don’t! If the honey isn’t enough to tame the spiciness, this recipe for sweet and spicy fry sauce also includes mayonnaise (or sour cream or plain yogurt, if you prefer), rice vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce.
All of these things combine to make a honey sriracha dip you can’t help but dig into!
But now to the big question – what should you use for dipping?!
The obvious answer is fries, of course, but we all know not all fries are created equally. Some fries are too soft in the middle. Some fries are too crunchy. Finding the right fry takes a lot of trial and error.
Well, after lots of taste testing, I officially have my favorite at home fry for dipping! They are perfect for dinner with burgers, a date night or movie night snack, and even fry nachos. If you haven’t tried the latter, you are missing out.
McCain® Dip’n Wedges are by far the best potato choice! They are made with real potatoes and are slightly curved making a little spoon for the dipping sauce, which means more flavor from the sweet and spicy fry sauce.
The best part is McCain has a bunch of different varieties of fries from Crinkle Cut to Seasoned Curly Fries or Waffle fries!
But seriously, the Dip’n Wedges are the BEST! You’ll want to make sure you pick a bag up from the freezer section at Walmart the next time you are out shopping. Plus the few ingredients you need to make this 5 ingredient dipping sauce!
TIPS FOR MAKING THE BEST FRIES AT HOME
When making the McCain Dip’n Wedges at home, make sure to follow the directions on the bag in regards to temperature and baking time. However, here are a couple tips for making them the perfect dipping potato wedge – besides choosing McCain’s, of course, which goes without saying!
First, prep the baking pans with aluminum foil and then spray the foil with cooking spray. This will both keep your potatoes from sticking to the pan AND make your clean up easier. Both are big wins for me!
Second, make sure to keep the potatoes on a single layer and do not over crowd the pan. If cooking the whole bag, I usually use two pans so that the potatoes can all lay evenly on the pan. The potato touching the pan helps give it it’s crispiness and golden color.
Lastly, while slightly tedious, I suggest using tongs to flip these potato wedges while cooking. You could use a spatula but I like the even cooking of the potatoes and find quickly flipping them with tongs will make sure that happens vs batch flipping.
HOW DO I MAKE A HONEY SRIRACHA DIPPING SAUCE:
Making a tasty sweet and spicy fry sauce is super easy, making it the perfect addition as a dinner side dish or fun snack. Plus, since it only takes a few quick moments, there is no excuse NOT to make this fry sauce recipe!
Simply add all the ingredients into a small bowl and whisk! That’s it!
Store in the fridge until you are ready to enjoy!
WHAT CAN I SUBSTITUTE FOR RICE VINEGAR?
I use rice vinegar in this recipe because it is the sweetest of the vinegars, adding a really gentle zing to recipes. It’s perfect if you aren’t looking for that strong tang of vinegar, and the sweetness of the rice vinegar pairs well in creating the sweet and spicy balance.
However, if you don’t have rice vinegar in the pantry and don’t want to buy a bottle, you can substitute the rice vinegar. The BEST substitute for the rice vinegar is apple cider vinegar as it’s the second most mild vinegar.
You definitely do not want to substitute the rice vinegar with white vinegar, it’s too sour and strong for this recipe. Additionally, I don’t recommend balsamic vinegar or either wine vinegars.
WHAT CAN I SUBSTITUTE THE MAYO FOR IN THE DIP RECIPE?
This recipe calls for mayo as the base for the fry sauce. However, it can easily be substituted with either plain yogurt, plain Greek yogurt, or sour cream.
All of these choices will provide a slight difference in texture (the sour cream and Greek yogurt would make a little thicker dipping sauce) and possibly a subtle taste difference. However, with the spice of the sriracha sauce, the taste difference would be almost indistinguishable.
