We are celebrating Valentine’s Day and turning 30 with a 13 Going on 30 inspired Razzle Red Raspberry Mojito.
When I decided to have a little fun with my friends and romantic comedies this Valentine’s Day season, I knew the perfect movie for me to pay homage to – 13 Going on 30. You see, The Love Nerds are less than a month away from turning the big 3-0. Both of us within 5 days of each other. Jenna was obsessed with razzles, often asking if her tongue was Razzle Red, so I decided to make this Razzle Red Raspberry Mojito which can easily be made with or without alcohol.
If you haven’t seen the movie yet, you need to! It’s one of my favorite romantic comedies, partially because it doesn’t take itself too seriously. The whole movie centers around wishes gone bad, appreciating the moment and people around you. Jenna wanted to be 30 – only to flash forward into the gorgeous Jennifer Garner version of her 30 year old self and realizes it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. Because let’s be honest – adulting is hard.
The older I do get, the more I realize how hard it is to always keep things in balanced. Tough decisions weigh on me all the time: What car can we afford next? Is a much needed vacation really in the budget? When will we be able to get a house? What will starting a family look like? etc. More and more I see the slight fear behind my friends’ eyes as we talk about life – jobs, budgets, houses, kids. But there is always a glimmer of excitement, too.
I’m looking back on our 20s and thinking how far we have come: we graduated college, got master’s degrees, got married, built our home together and managed to have fun while putting at least some money away. The 30s isn’t going to be less exciting. We will face big, terrifying changes, and I can’t wait! A good cocktail here and there will definitely make it easier, though!
